1. What fractional part of a second is a microsecond? A nanosecond?

A microsecond is one millionth of a second. A nanosecond is one billionth of a second.

2. Why are computers considered to be extremely accurate devices?

Computers are very accurate devices because they have microships inside them.

3. What factors have contributed to the modern computer's increased durability and reliability?

Microchips.

4. What is a general purpose computer?

Make our lives much more easy.

5. Why are modern computers considered (for the most part) to be cost-effective devices?

Considering the amount of help a computer is in our daily lives, it is very cost-effective.

6. How have computers participated in their own development?

Computers build computers.

7. Why should data be verified both before and after being entered into the computer?

To see if the information is correct and to see if the computer has read the information correct
8. Identify the basic functions of the information-processing cycle.
The CPU uses input output devices to process information.

9. What are the most important characteristics of computer-generated output?

When putting in information in a computer (input) it generates output depending on what the information means.

10. Explain the difference between computer hardware and computer software.

Hardware is the acutual parts inside a computer, while software is the information put into hardware such as programs.

11. Explain the difference between an input device, a processor, a storage device, and an output device.

An input device is a mouse, keyboard, joystick, ect.., while a processor is what processes the data from the input devices. A storage device is something that stores data into the computer. Output devices are moniters , speakers, ect...

12. Explain the difference between a system program and an application program.

A system program is an essential program, while applications are programs we use for our benefits.

13. Briefly explain how a computer system works.

A computer system is a combination of hardware ans software that interacts to accomplish a task.

14. Describe the differences between a microcomputer, a minicomputer, a mainframe computer, and a special-purpose computer.

A microcomputer is an extremely small computer, while a mini computer is a mid-sized computer. A mainframe computer is a larger computer then the minicomputer. A special purpose computer can be anything witha chip in it that does specific tasks.

15. Describe the differences between a personal computer and a portable computer.

A personal computer is a small, desk-sized microcomputerdesigned for individual use in homes and offices while a portable computer is a computer designed to be taken where you go.

16. Identify at least three uses of special-purpose computers.

Microwave, Traffic lights, or a Remote control.
17. What is an information utility service?

Businessess or Universities that use large computers to store huge amounts of data.

18. Describe how computers can provide better service for bank customers.

Computers can store large amounts of data which is accesable by the employees at a bank, this can assist the bank to help the customers productivly

19. How may computers be used in the home?

Computers can be used at home in many many ways, such as personal entertainment to access to the internet.

20. What are some ways the computer is used in dealing with the weather and environment?

Computers can be used to predict the weather.

21. How have computers affected transportation?

Computers help transportation because their are used in every vehicle plane train ect...

22. How have computers contributed to improved community services?

Computers contribute to most aspects of life and community services are no different. They can help organize a community service.

23. Describe ways in which computers improve medical and health care as well as the quality of life for those who are ill or disabled.

Computers are used on the medical field everyday, they can help preform a surgury and or simply tell whether a person has high blood pressure or not.

24. What are the advantages to humans of having computers perform routine and dangerous tasks?

Computers can save lives by preforming dangerous tasks.
